Step 1 - Letter of Offer from the education provider. Read it carefully before accepting: it carries the course details, enrolment conditions and the fees payable. Keep a copy. Step 2 - Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE), issued by the provider after you accept the offer and pay the deposit. A copy must be included in the visa application. Concurrent CoEs are no longer issued. Step 3 - Proof of English proficiency: a certificate of results from an approved English language test may be required. Step 4 - Genuine Student (GS) requirement: the online application asks about your circumstances (ties to family, community, employment, economic circumstances), why you chose the course and Australia, how you will benefit, your study history in Australia, and your reasons if you already hold another visa. Step 5 - Financial capacity: international student visa applicants must provide proof of at least 29,710 dollars of savings to cover travel, course fees and rent. Step 6 - Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the duration of the stay. Without proof of OSHC the student visa application will be refused. Step 7 - Health requirement: a health examination may be needed. Step 8 - Character requirement: questions about character and past conduct; a police background check may be required. Step 9 - Apply online using ImmiAccount.

You do not need an agent to lodge a student visa application. For immigration assistance, use a registered migration agent or a legal practitioner. An education agent who is not a registered migration agent or a legal practitioner cannot lawfully give immigration assistance in Australia.
