Skills in Demand visa (subclass 482)

A temporary visa that lets an employer sponsor a suitably skilled worker to fill a position they cannot find a suitably skilled Australian to fill.

Basic eligibility - you must:

• be nominated for a skilled position by an approved sponsor
• have the right skills to do the job
• meet the relevant English language requirements.

Stay: up to 4 years. Hong Kong passport holders may stay up to 5 years.

Streams:

• Core Skills stream: your occupation is on the Core Skills Occupation List.
• Specialist Skills stream: your occupation is an ANZSCO occupation listed in Major Groups 1, 2, 4,

5 or 6, and the nominated salary meets the Specialist Skills Income Threshold.

• Labour Agreement stream: your employer has a labour agreement with the Australian government in

effect (up to a maximum of 4 years, depending on the terms of that agreement).

• Family members of a primary 482 or 457 visa holder can be included.
